1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a fun, exciting, and free program aimed to start your child on the path to reading success! This nationwide challenge for you and your child is an easy way to get them ready to learn and read by sharing books together and earning prizes along the way! Any child from birth to 5 years old can participate.

Birth! It’s never too early to start reading and talking to your child.

Visit the library website and print off a fun tracking sheet for you and your little one to color in together, or stop by the library and pick one up. When you turn in your tracking sheet at the library, pick up a new sheet and sticker each time you finish 100 books.

Absolutely! If your child has a favorite book, feel free to count it every time you read it together.

Yes! Plus you and your child will have fun rhyming, singing, dancing and meeting other families!

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten may seem like a big task, but don’t worry, there’s tons of fun to be had along the way!

-Every 100 Books: Pick up a new tracking sheet and sticker.

Pick up stickers and prizes down in youth services at the Library.

-500 Books: Pick up your FREE book bag and book.

-1,000 Books: Choose a FREE book for you and your child to enjoy together and your child will receive a 1,000 Books t-shirt. Your child will also receive a certificate of completion and get their picture posted on our Facebook page (if you want).

1,000 books may seem totally overwhelming but we promise it’s not as hard as you think!

3 books a day for 1 year = 1,095 books

1 book a day for 3 years = 1,095 books
