About Gallery 708

The primary intention of Gallery 708 art exhibits is to showcase local artistic talent. Both experienced and new artists and art instructors are welcome to apply for solo or group exhibitions.

Space

The 40-by-17-foot space is the south entrance to the library via Caldwell Plaza and includes Gallery 708, vending machines and tables and chairs. Two-dimensional pieces will hang on a 25-by 4.5-foot wall covered with ribbed felt. Lighting includes natural light from skylights plus 12 miniature, adjustable spotlights. Two smaller exhibit areas, lit by can lights and opposite the main gallery wall, measure 8-by 4.5-feet, 6-by 4.5-feet and 6-by x 4.5-feet between columns. There are nine carpeted panels on the west wall and five on the east wall; each panel is 4 feet, 7.5 inches.

Exhibits

Exhibits are held for a period of six weeks. Shorter exhibits can be considered on an artist-by-artist basis. Artists should provide enough pieces to aesthetically fill the exhibit space. Artists are responsible for selecting and installing their work. Artwork may be for exhibit only or for sale. Library Staff will handle the sale and dispersal of sold items. Artists are responsible for setting their own prices and will receive 100% of the revenue generated from sold pieces.

Reception

A reception for exhibitions will be given on the first Thursday after the show has officially opened. Other dates can be discussed on a case-by-case basis. Receptions will typically be held from 6-7:30 p.m. in Gallery 708.
