It’s August and the start of school is just around the corner. Before switching gears to book bags, sharpened No. 2 pencils and the call of the school bell, let’s take one last look at summer.

Final summer winners were drawn July 27, bringing the total number of prize drawings to 119. The community read 23,271 books with 1,149 people reading toward the goal. Youth in kindergarten through 8th grade picked up 3,282 learning packets. The Mr. Stinky Feet performance and Summer Constellations were two of our most popular programs, with 300 people braving the heat to sing and dance in Oakdale Park and 70 coming to learn about the stars.

If you have thoughts on Summer at the Library, we would love to hear them. We are collecting survey responses through Thursday. You can even enter a drawing for a Salina Area Chamber of Commerce gift certificate by completing the survey.

Now about that school supply list! We hope that you and the students in your life remember that the library is an additional resource for academic success. We have study spaces, Wi-Fi and knowledgeable librarians. Your library card gives you access to books and periodicals, research resources and online learning tools, like Learning Express Library and keyboarding practice.

We also offer some options for taking a break from all that studying. Here are some favorites:
