Hello, dear friends!
My name is Frumpkin and I am an Abyssinian (a·buh·si·nee·uhn) guinea pig. I live here in Salina with my human family. Have you ever seen a guinea pig like me?
Do you have one of your own? If you do, tell them I said, “Hi!”
I am almost 1 year old, and about the size of a large sweet potato. I am part of the rodent family, which includes mice, hamsters, squirrels and beavers. Rodents’ teeth don’t stop growing, so I like to chew on stuff to keep them shorter. Wood is my favorite when I’m not munching on my hay.
Abyssinians have these swirls in their fur. They are called rosettes. My humans say it looks like I have bedhead all the time.
When I got my new family I was really scared; they were so much bigger than me. I would run and hide when they came around my pen. Then I realized they gave me yummy treats and were really gentle with me since I was so much smaller than them. My human mama and sister give the best snuggles and they think I am the cutest thing ever.
Well, that’s all for now. My humans said we are going to go on an adventure. I hope to see you soon and tell you all about it. Bye!
P.S. Now that it’s winter time we don’t get to go on as many adventures outside. That doesn’t mean we can’t still have fun and go on an adventure at home. My human mama works at the library and she brings home books all the time. You can read fun stories at home about guinea pigs just like me.
