There’s something special about walking into the library and finding exactly what you didn’t know you needed. Whether it’s a great book, a quiet place to recharge, or a friendly conversation, those small moments of joy are what National Library Week is all about.

From April 19–25, the Salina Public Library is inviting the community to Find Your Joy, this year’s national theme, and celebrate everything that makes libraries such an essential part of everyday life.

A Week to Explore, Connect, and Celebrate

Throughout the week, you’ll find simple, fun ways to connect with the library and fellow community members. Add your favorite titles to a community reading list, snap a picture at the photo booth, or just take some time to browse and unwind. There will also be giveaways and plenty of opportunities to chat with library staff.

It’s also a chance to recognize the bigger impact libraries have in supporting literacy for all ages, providing equitable access to resources, and creating a welcoming space for everyone.

Celebrating All Week Long

Each day during National Library Week highlights a different part of what makes libraries so important:

  • Right to Read Day (April 20) – Celebrating and protecting access to information
  • National Library Workers Day (April 21) – Showing appreciation for library staff
  • National Library Outreach Day (April 22) – Highlighting services beyond the building
  • Take Action for Libraries Day (April 23) – Encouraging advocacy and support

Don’t Miss DEAR Day

One of the biggest highlights of the week is Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) Day on April 23.
From 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., the library will transform into the ultimate cozy reading destination. Stop by anytime to relax with a good book and enjoy:

  • Sweet treats like donuts, popcorn, and bakery items (while supplies last)
  • Cozy reading spaces perfect for unplugging
  • Personalized reading recommendations
  • A community reading list to share your favorites
  • A themed photo booth and giveaways
  • A special youth evening storytime connected to the 2026 Salina Reads program

And if you’re lucky, you might even receive a surprise reward just for taking time to read in the library.

Try Your Luck with the Library Raffle

Feeling lucky? The Library Luck Raffle is back with nine themed prize baskets filled with books, games, tech, and experiences for all ages.

Tickets are $3 each or four for $10, and all proceeds go right back into supporting library programs and services. You can check out the baskets on display across from the Information Desk all week long. Ticket sales close at noon on April 24, with winners drawn later that day.

A Place for Everyone

This week is all about finding your own version of joy, whatever that looks like. Maybe it’s discovering a new favorite author, spending time with your kids at storytime, or simply enjoying a quiet moment to yourself.

However you choose to celebrate, the library is ready to welcome you.
