There are oodles of websites out there reporting on the most-read books of the year, yet all of the lists are different. Some books will zoom to the top of the popularity list in one region and languish in another. Trying to find an accurate list that encompasses the reading tastes of the world is almost impossible, but one thing is agreed upon–The Holy Bible and the Holy Quran are by far the most-read books globally. For our purposes, we’ll look at the top 20 circulated items at Salina Public Library from January through March 2025. Follow the links to see availability and a description of each title.

This might come as a surprise, but the most circulated item was People Weekly magazine, with a whopping 55 checkouts!  All the others on the list are books, and include fiction, mysteries, book discussion books, and nonfiction, as well as audio and digital formats.

Next, we have The Waiting by Michael Connelly with 28 checkouts.

In third place, we have a three-way tie between The Women by Kristin Hannah, The Housemaid by Frieda McFadden, and Battle Mountain by C. J. Box, all with 26 checkouts.

A tie between To Die For by David Baldacci and Three Days in June by Anne Tyler takes fourth place with 20 checkouts each.

In fifth place is another tie between Framed: Astonishing True Stories of Wrongful Convictions by John Grisham and Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros with 18 checkouts each.

In sixth place is a 9-way tie! Each of the following books represented with a solid 17 checkouts each: The God of the Woods by Liz Moore, The House of Cross by James Patterson, Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt, The Measure by Nikki Erlick, Now or Never by Janet Evanovich, All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, Never Say Never by Danielle Steel, The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, and The Crash by Frieda McFadden.

Last but not least, in seventh place is another tie between True Grit by Charles Portis (our Salina Reads title for 2025) and Holmes is Missing by James Patterson, both with 16 checkouts.

Give one of these titles a try and find out why they are so popular. And if none of them strike your fancy, I know where you can find some books that do.
