January is National Hobby Month. One of the great things about hobbies is that they are for everyone.

Hobbies in America are as diverse as the people who partake in them. We have what could be considered more classic hobbies, like assembling miniature models (think ships in a bottle and model airplanes), collecting stamps and coins, woodworking, chess, gardening, and sewing. We have more modern or trendy activities too, like scrapbooking, decorative board painting, soap making, adult coloring books, and acrylic pouring. There are even hobbies that you might not know about nor think to categorize as hobbies, such as gaming (both board and video), “cubing” for Rubik’s Cube enthusiasts, and geocaching (outdoor treasure hunts that use GPS devices to find hidden virtual items).

There is something for everyone. No matter if for introverts, extroverts, young, old, solitarily or in groups. Whatever your hobby interests may be, the Library can help you find books and resources to keep hands busy, minds challenged, and creativity alive.
