Pickup Service

To give patrons access to physical books, movies, games and more, while limiting contact, the library provides Pickup Service. It allows library cardholders to reserve the items they want, and then pick them up from a designated table that is just inside the library’s north entrance.

  1. Place your holds

Log into your online library account, browse the catalog and place holds on the items you would like. Watch this tutorial to find out how.

You can also call the library and talk to a staff member during operating hours. A staff member will ask you some questions to fulfill your order and can assist you in choosing items if you do not have particular titles in mind. For help finding youth items, call 785-833-9221; for adult items, call 785-833-9214. If you have questions about your account, call 785-833-9218.

  2. Schedule your pickup

When your items are ready, you will receive an email, text or phone call, depending on your preference. Patrons can then register for a day to pick up their items in one of the available Pickup Service events by either using the website or calling the library. The Pickup Service events can be found by clicking the link below, or by clicking on the “Events” button in the top-right corner of the library website. Watch this tutorial to see more of that process.

  3. Pick your materials up

Once you arrive at the library, go to the north entrance, walk through the lobby and inside the second set of sliding glass doors, look to your left. There, you will find your labeled bag (last name, first initial) waiting for you on a table. Simply pick them up and you can be on your way.

If you have scheduled a pickup and require assistance retrieving your items, staff may be able to bring the items to your vehicle. Please call the Circulation desk at 785-833-9218, at least 1 hour in advance, so that we can plan for your arrival.  When you pull up to the library, please call us at 785-833-9218 to let us know that you have arrived. You will need to park close to the north entrance and inform library staff of your vehicle’s make and color.  To ensure the correct items are given to the correct patron, library staff will ask for your name when they approach your vehicle.  Staff will then hand the items to you through the car window and you can be on your way.

Things to Keep in Mind

When you reserve items for pickup please be advised:

  • You may choose up to 50 items to be placed on hold for you to pick up, just remember that some items types (hotspots, games, new DVDs, etc.) have lower maximum holds limits to match their checkout limits.
  • If you call after hours or the line is busy, leave a voicemail with your name and phone number, and a staff member will call you back as soon as possible. When leaving a voicemail, please speak clearly and slowly.
  • The items you requested may not be available due to being checked out to other patrons.

When you schedule your pickup please be advised:

  • All pickup requests must be submitted before 7:00 AM to be available that day.
  • Holds are only held for 7 days, so please schedule a day soon after receiving your item notification.

When you pick up your items:

  • Please look for the bag with your name on it and do not touch other bags.
  • If you cannot pick up your items at the time you requested, please call the library. We will hold your items for seven days before returning them back to the shelves.

Returning Items

Most materials can be returned to the drop box inside the south lobby of the library building or to the drive-thru drop off the west side of the library building.  There are also drop boxes at the three Dillon’s locations as well at the OCCK bus stop on 9th Street & Hamilton Avenue. Items such as Hotspots, Nintendo Switches, and Rokus and any items that are specifically marked should be returned to the drop box at the library.  Some items are marked to be returned specifically to library staff at the Circulation desk.
