Dec. 26, 2018 – Family History Detectives, Salina Public Library’s monthly educational genealogy gathering, will focus on DNA for Adoptees during its first meeting of the year. The group will meet from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Jan. 10 in the library’s Prescott Room. Librarian Barbara Mulvihill will give the presentation.
Genetic genealogy can be used by adoptees to find their birth families. Mulvihill will cover the basic process of completing genetic testing, as well as some of the benefits and pitfalls of using this method.
Mulvihill has more than 30 years of experience with genealogy research and has lead personal history recording efforts at the library, including StoryCatchers and the oral history recording project for Kansas Stories of the Vietnam War. She is the recipient of a 2018 Lana Jordan Developing Artist Grant from Salina Arts and Humanities.
Family History Detectives, formerly known as the Genealogy Club, meets August through November and January through May. Upcoming topics include Victorian mourning traditions, tombstone rubbings and the annual lock-in and brag session. Genealogist of all experience levels are welcome. Meetings are free and do not require registration.
