Sept. 4, 2018 – Salina Public Library’s September meeting of Family History Detectives will focus on putting family history down on paper. Information Services Librarian Barbara Mulvihill will present “Genealogy and Beyond: Writing a Family Memoir” from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sept. 20 in the library’s Prescott Room.
Many family genealogists conduct their research not only to inform themselves but so a record can be shared with extended family and future generations. Mulvihill will offer advice and strategies for undertaking the process of collecting a family’s story in memoir format.
Mulvihill has more than 30 years of experience with genealogy research and has lead personal history recording efforts at the library, including StoryCatchers and the oral history recording project for Kansas Stories of the Vietnam War. She is the recipient of a 2018 Lana Jordan Developing Artist Grant from Salina Arts and Humanities. She used the grant to take an online master writing class and to travel to Arkansas and Texas for research.
Family History Detectives, formally known as the Genealogy Club, meets every third Thursday, August through November and January through May. Genealogists of all experience levels are welcome. Upcoming topics include using Evernote to organize research and U.S. Army unit records. Meetings are free and do not require registration.
